Mates4Mates is calling on local organisations interested in providing services through the Northern Territory Veteran and Family Wellbeing Centre, to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Mates4Mates was appointed by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to lead the Darwin-based Wellbeing Centre which will provide support and rehabilitation services to veterans and their families.

Service-providers, including for-profit and not-for-profit organisations, who provide support in one or more of the following categories, are encouraged to apply.

Categories include health and wellbeing services, programs in education, housing or employment, transition support, advocacy and welfare support, or justice and family services.

Mates4Mates CEO Troy Watson said the Darwin centre will be a collaborative venture with local organisations to ensure that the best possible support and care is offered.

“It’s our vision that services will not only include psychological, physical rehabilitation and social connection programs, but also provide veterans with vital access to advocacy, welfare, homelessness, and employment programs, among others,” Mr Watson said.

“We would like to hear from local organisations who provide services in these areas and are interested in supporting the local Defence community in the centre, or as a referral pathway.

“We know that veterans can experience a range of service-related injuries or challenges, including mental health issues and isolation, and need access to tailored support.

“If we work together as a community, we can provide consistent and sustainable services that are suited to the region’s unique culture and environment and will ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of veterans across the Northern Territory.”

The Veteran and Family Wellbeing Centre will be the first of its kind in the Northern Territory, with doors expected to open in 2022.
