Mates4Mates and RSL Queensland Branch Advocacy Services

Mates4Mates is working with RSL (Queensland branch) to assist Mates in their claims for benefits and entitlements in Queensland Centres.

Brisbane: A trained Veteran Services Officer (VSO) from RSL Queensland Branch is available for free appointments at the Brisbane Mates4Mates Centre every Wednesday morning, from 9am until 12pm.

Townsville: Two trained RSL Advocates are based at the Townsville Mates4Mates Centre, so if you are looking for an advocate to help you with your claim, contact the centre on 07 4771 9600.

VSOs from RSL (Queensland branch) can assist you in completing the complex claim paperwork needed to obtain Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) benefits. They provide advice on disability and service pensions, compensation payments and associated allowances and treatment. Advocates also research entitlements, review claim paperwork that has been submitted to determine if there are any errors or omissions, assist in gathering additional evidence, and provide advice and support for Veterans’ Review Board hearings.

VSOs acting as Advocates can also take on cases on behalf of veterans and Defence Force personnel in instances where their claims for benefits/entitlements have been rejected by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and they have a legitimate case for appeal with the Veterans’ Review Board. (The Veterans’ Review Board is an independent tribunal which reviews decisions made by officers of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.). These Advocates are trained professionals, who will work alongside you throughout the appeal process, right through to an appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, if necessary.

This pensions, welfare and advocacy service can make an enormous difference to the lives of Mates and families and we are pleased to be working with RSL (Queensland branch) on this initiative.

Contact Mates4Mates on 1300 4 MATES (1300 462 837) for more information about how this service can help you, or to book your appointment today.

Please note: DVA also provides information and advice to our Mates, however this centres on the claim process once it arrives at DVA. VSOs from RSL (Queensland branch) assist Mates in completing the complex paperwork needed to obtain DVA benefits.
