Tara Pitt is a Sunshine Coast barrel racer and a current contestant on Australian Survivor 2017. She’s proven to be a force to be reckoned with during her time in the Asatoa, Samatau and Asaga tribes and although she may be small in stature she’s strong and determined to make her mark and raise awareness about Mates4Mates in the process.
Tara’s dad Rodney served in the Australian Army for 21 years. After returning from Somalia in 1993 Rodney suffered with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression. Unfortunately, it was this 23-year mental battle that lead to Rodney taking his own life in August last year.
Tara applied for Survivor only a few months after her father passed away, and found it allowed her to grieve in her own way. Tara found Mates4Mates after her father passed and wants to raise awareness that services for veterans are available and to encourage people to reach out.
When Tara isn’t with her three boys and husband she’s travelling around Queensland with her horse, Tum Tum. Tum Tum was a gift from Tara’s dad and he was extremely proud of her barrel racing success. Tum Tum also helped Rod in many ways and he loved spending time with Tara Tum Tum.
“I loved growing up with my family and being an Army kid. My Dad was my hero.”
