Darwin construction company wins tender for new Veteran and Family Hub

27 July 2022

Mates4Mates has appointed Darwin-based Asset Construction to a $2.3m contract for the new Veteran and Family Hub located in Stuart Park.

The appointment of the award-winning company as principal contractor follows a tender process and will see Asset Construction refurbish and fit out the recently acquired property at 39 Stuart Highway both externally and internally.

The new centre will house professional offices for a number of veterans’ support organisations, a veterans’ lounge, and space for popular social connection activities run by Mates4Mates, all with the goal of supporting veterans and Defence Force personnel and their families.

Asset Construction Director Jeremy Mclean said the appointment was a great boost for the local economy.

“It’s an exciting project to have been awarded. Personally, I enjoy the challenge of revamping a building into something that is not only modern and aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and giving it new life. It’s great for local businesses to win projects like this, and we’re thrilled to be able to work on something that will make a real-life difference to our veterans and Defence Force members,” he said.

Mates4Mates Regional Manager Marcia Morgan said work on the new centre would start within weeks and was a great example of Mates4Mates’ long-term investment in the Territory.

“The new centre will be one of two, with our existing location in Palmerston continuing its great work that’s already provided hundreds of activities across social connection, physical rehabilitation and psychological services, and Skills for Recovery Programs. Between the two centres, veterans and their families will have easy access to comprehensive services,” she said.

The new location also adds to a growing wellness and healthcare precinct in Stuart Park, with a number of complementary services already located close by.

Works are scheduled to finish December with the centre opening early next year.
