Tasmanian veterans will have the opportunity to take part in four one-day wellness programs, thanks to a grant from the Tasmanian Government.

The $10,000 grant, awarded to Mates4Mates through the Supporting our Veterans – COVID-19 grants program, aims to provide support to veterans with service-related injuries.

Mates4Mates provides support and rehabilitation services to veterans and their families through the Family Recovery Centre in Hobart and in outreach areas around Tasmania.

The first of the four wellness programs will be held during Veterans’ Health Week on October 30, 2020 at Junction Hut Chalet on Mount Wellington. In 2021, programs will also be held in Burnie, Coles Bay and Devonport.

Each program will be facilitated by a Mates4Mates psychologist and exercise physiologist and will include clinically therapeutic group sessions covering key topics from pain management to mood management, and relationship support.

Mates4Mates Tasmania Manager Josh Miller thanked the Tasmanian Government for the grant.

“With these funds, we have been able to develop four tailored wellbeing programs that will provide veterans with skills to improve their psychological and physical health,” he said.

“The aim is to enable veterans to explore issues such as anxiety, depression and pain with the guidance of our clinical team, and equip them with useful strategies to better manage their wellbeing in future.

“We encourage veterans impacted by service to reach out to Mates4Mates for support and register for the program.

“Anyone who registers with Mates4Mates will also have access to a wide range of other programs from social connection activities, to psychology appointments, yoga classes and more.”
