Introducing physiotherapy services

05 August 2024

Mates4Mates is committed to providing veterans and families with a collaborative approach when supporting them to reconnect and recover.

Commencing this month in Brisbane, we have expanded our physical rehabilitation and wellbeing offerings to introduce physiotherapy services.

What is a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists can support veterans to restore and maintain their physical function and mobility to aid in recovery from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and improve overall quality of life.

Physiotherapists can assess a person’s physical condition and diagnose health issues and develop personalised treatment plans.

Treatment plans can address a wide range of physical health issues including musculoskeletal, neurological, pelvic floor and cardiovascular and respiratory disorders.

Physiotherapy treatments aim to alleviate pain, improve mobility, prevent future injuries and health issues, and enhance physical function.

How do I know when to see a physiotherapist or an exercise physiologist?

Both exercise physiologists and physiotherapists play an important role in supporting recovery from physical injuries and chronic conditions.

Both allied health professionals will use exercise and movement to improve health and wellbeing outcomes.

Exercise physiology is focused on how the body responds to exercise and long-term management of health conditions like diabetes, PTSD, cardiovascular disease and persistent pain.

Physiotherapy is focused on diagnosis, rehabilitation and restoring function in individuals with physical impairments or injuries.

Our Mates4Mates physiotherapists work in a multidisciplinary team, which includes psychologists, exercise physiologists, counsellors and social workers to provide holistic integrated support. If you aren’t sure which clinician is right for your needs, our friendly team can provide you with advice, or speak to your doctor ahead of receiving a referral.

How to book an appointment with a physiotherapist

To access physiotherapy services at Mates4Mates, you will need to obtain a referral from your medical practitioner.

To obtain a referral, please speak with your GP, Medical Officer or specialist to discuss your treatment options.

Mates4Mates clinical services are provided at no cost to eligible clients.

Support at Mates4Mates

At Mates4Mates, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists will work together to provide veterans and families with a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to improving their physical health and wellbeing.

Our team will take the time to learn about your health history and any injuries that you’ve previously had or are currently dealing with.

At the RSL Queensland Veteran & Family Wellbeing Centre in Stafford, physiotherapy and exercise physiology one-on-one appointments are available, alongside the range of group exercise classes available. Check out the online SEQ calendar for more information on our current group class timetable.
