Dr. Ian R Gardner, Board Member
Dr. Ian R Gardner is an Australian specialist physician with nearly 40 years national and international experience in occupational, environmental, and public health medicine and toxicology.
Ian has a long-term interest in the health and wellbeing of veterans and current-serving Defence members, including most recently some 14 years’ service with the Department of Defence as Senior Physician in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, followed by 4 years as the Principal Medical Adviser/Chief Health Officer for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in Canberra. He retired from full-time work in July 2019 and relocated to his home state of Queensland.
He has previously been a ministerially appointed member of the Specialist Medical Review Council (SMRC), which has important statutory review roles of the Statements of Principles (SoPs) under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act, as well as having been the chair or executive manager of multiple veteran/Defence health studies.
Ian is also appointed by RSL National as their Specialist Medical Adviser to the National Veterans Affairs Committee and is also appointed as the RSL National nominee to the DVA Veterans MATES Editorial Committee which specialises in providing targeted high quality pharmaceutical and health information to veterans throughout Australia.
