Brisbane Roar support injured veterans in ANZAC Day match

01 March 2019

Brisbane soccer fans are being urged to get their mates together and cheer on the Roar at the club’s ANZAC Day Hyundai A-League match – all while supporting an important cause.

The Brisbane Roar FR (BRFC) vs Adelaide United match, held at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday April 25, will honour those who have served and raise funds for Mates4Mates.

Mates4Mates provides specialised support and rehabilitation services for current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members who have physical or psychological injuries, and their families.

Mates4Mates CEO Troy Watson encouraged locals to get their mates together and attend the game.

“This is a great opportunity to not only pay our respects to the service and sacrifice of those who served, but honour those who have served recently and continue to serve,” Mr Watson said.

“We commend the Brisbane Roar for their support of ANZAC Day and bringing awareness to veterans still struggling through injuries and illness.

“Funds raised in the lead up to, and at, the match will help us continue to provide a range of vital services to those in need, including psychological support, physical rehabilitation activities, employment support, and peer support through social connection activities.”

Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre said the Club was honoured to play on ANZAC Day.

“We are delighted to team up with Mates4Mates for our ANZAC Day match at Suncorp Stadium against Adelaide United,” he said.

“We thank those who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving our great country and we are privileged to be able to highlight the incredible support Mates4Mates provide to current and former Australian Defence Force members and their families.

“BRFC is proud to host such a historic event and encourage everyone to get along to Suncorp Stadium to pay their respects and support not only your Brisbane Roar, but the incredible work being done by Mates4Mates."
